The implication of the difficulty of people obtaining land certificates is the emergence of land disputes. According to President Joko Widodo he often encounters complaints about land disputes because the community does not hold land certificates.
“From 2015, every time I went to the region, the complaints were always about land disputes. This was because the community did not hold the name of the land certificate,” the President said during the Land Certificate Submission for the People in the District Office of West Manggarai Regency, NTT Province, Tuesday (21/01 / 2020).
According to the President, land disputes are dangerous because they can cause conflicts in the community. “For this reason, I instruct the ATR Minister / Head of BPN to accelerate land certification. Prior to 2017, the Regional Land Office issues 500,000 to 1,000,000 certificates annually while the number of parcels in the Indonesian territory is 126 million plots of land and has only been certified around 46 million plots of land, “said President Joko Widodo.

If these conditions continue, according to the President, the community must wait 160 years if they want to get a land certificate. “For this reason, I ask the ATR Minister / Head of BPN to issue 5 million land certificates in 2017, 7 million in 2018 and 9 million in 2019. It must be so, the important thing is that the community is served,” said the President.
Related to land disputes, Deputy Minister of ATR / Deputy Head of BPN, Surya Tjandra said that handling land disputes is one of the main tasks of the ATR / BPN Ministry. “The land certificate must be eternal, meaning that it is valid for life for the owner. Our task is to safeguard the matter. I also request that the entire range of Land Offices in the area actively engage in communication with law enforcement agencies related to the handling of land disputes,” said Deputy Minister of ATR / Deputy Head of BPN.
Deputy Minister of ATR / Deputy Head of BPN added that in addition to helping the handling of land disputes, the task of the ATR / BPN Ministry was to complete the registration of lands in Indonesia in 2025.
